Vane Gage and Bend Machine (a/k/a VBM2400):
Engine performance is sensitive to vane angle settings and tolerances have been tightened over the years. Reading and bending of vanes is time consuming when performed manually. As such, the newly re-designed Vane Bending Machine (VBM2400) is the ideal machine since it automatically measures and corrects 1/4 chord angles on both leading and trailing edges of compressor stator vanes yielding benefits in accuracy and time reduction. Using a PLC, CRT input screen, and revamped chassis with easier operator interface, the state-of-the-art VBM2400 is now more reliable, durable, and accurate in gaging and bending compressor stators. The enhanced PLC also accommodates unlimited stages allowing the VBM2400 to continuously measure and bend a variety of stator configurations right after each other with simple set-up adjustments. The VBM2400's fully automated gaging and bending not only eliminates injury risks associated with manual bending (i.e., carpal tunnel, etc.), but also greatly reduces gaging and bending cycle time from a typical 2-3 hours per shroud for manual bending to a completion time of 20-45 minutes per shroud assembly for bending with the VBM2400.
